General Questions
What is HunterTag?
HunterTag is an innovative bicycle protection system that uses NFC (Near Field Communication) technology and community support to help prevent thefts and recover stolen bicycles. Each bicycle receives a unique NFC tag that can be scanned to verify ownership and track location.
How does HunterTag work?
HunterTag works in three simple steps: 1) Register your bicycle and attach an NFC tag, 2) If your bike is stolen, report it as stolen in our system, 3) Our hunter community can scan the tags they find and help locate your bicycle.
What makes HunterTag different from other systems?
Unlike traditional locks or GPS trackers, HunterTag combines passive NFC technology with an active community network. Tags don't require batteries, are weather-resistant, and create a collaborative network effect where more users mean better protection for everyone.
Is HunterTag available worldwide?
HunterTag is currently available in Italy and is expanding to other European countries. We plan to launch globally as our network grows.
How much does HunterTag cost?
Basic protection starts at €29.99 for a single NFC tag. Premium plans with additional features and multiple tags are available.
Do I need a smartphone to use HunterTag?
Yes, you need a smartphone with NFC functionality to scan tags and use the full HunterTag system. Most modern smartphones support NFC technology.
Can I use HunterTag on multiple bicycles?
Absolutely! You can register multiple bicycles with a single account. Each bicycle gets its own unique tag and protection profile.
Is there a mobile app?
We currently offer a web application accessible from any device. A dedicated mobile app is under development and will be available soon.
NFC Tags and Technology
What is an NFC tag?
An NFC tag is a small passive device that stores digital information. When scanned with an NFC-enabled smartphone, it can display bicycle information, ownership details, and theft status without requiring any power source.
How do I install the NFC tag on my bicycle?
Tags come with a robust adhesive backing and can be placed in discreet spots on the bicycle frame. We provide detailed installation instructions and recommend secure, hidden locations that are difficult to remove but easy to scan.
Are the tags weather-resistant?
Yes, our NFC tags are designed to withstand all weather conditions, including rain, snow, and extreme temperatures. They have an IP67 protection rating for water and dust resistance.
Can tags be removed or tampered with?
While tags can be physically removed, they are designed to be tamper-resistant. Attempting to remove a properly installed tag will likely damage it, and we provide anti-theft mounting options.
How long do NFC tags last?
NFC tags have no moving parts or batteries, so they can last many years under normal conditions. We guarantee our tags for 5 years against manufacturing defects.
What happens if my tag stops working?
If your tag becomes damaged or stops working, contact our support team. We offer free replacement tags under warranty and discounted replacements for older tags.
Can I transfer a tag to another bicycle?
Tags are designed to be bicycle-specific for security reasons. If you need to transfer protection to a new bicycle, contact support to deactivate the old tag and get a new one.
Do tags constantly track my location?
No, NFC tags are passive devices that only activate when scanned. They don't contain GPS or constantly track your location. Location data is only collected when someone actively scans your tag.
For Bicycle Owners
How do I register my bicycle?
Create a HunterTag account, then use the 'Add Bicycle' feature to register your bike. You'll need to provide basic bicycle information and attach the NFC tag during the registration process.
What information do I need to provide?
We need make, model, color, serial number (if available), and clear photos of your bicycle. This information helps verify ownership and assists in recovery if stolen.
How do I report my bicycle as stolen?
Log into your HunterTag account, go to your bicycle's page, and click 'Report as Stolen'. You can also add details about when and where it was stolen to help hunters in the search.
What happens when my stolen bike is found?
When someone scans your stolen bicycle's tag, you'll receive an immediate notification with the location and time. You can then coordinate with local authorities or the person who found it.
Can I set a reward for recovery?
Yes, you can set a monetary reward for recovering your bicycle. This incentivizes hunters to actively search for your bike and increases recovery chances.
How do I track maintenance?
HunterTag includes a digital maintenance log where you can record services, repairs, and routine maintenance. This helps track your bicycle's condition and can increase its value.
Can I update my bicycle information?
Yes, you can update information, photos, and your bicycle's status at any time through your HunterTag account.
What happens if I sell my bicycle?
When selling your bicycle, you can transfer HunterTag protection to the new owner or deactivate the tag. Contact support for assistance with the transfer process.
For Hunters
What is a Hunter in HunterTag?
A Hunter is a community member who helps locate stolen bicycles by scanning NFC tags they encounter. Hunters play a crucial role in our collaborative recovery network.
How do I become a Hunter?
Simply create a HunterTag account and verify your identity. Once approved, you can start scanning tags and participating in the recovery network. No special equipment is needed besides a smartphone.
How do I earn rewards?
Hunters earn rewards when they successfully help recover stolen bicycles. Reward amounts are set by bicycle owners and paid when the bike is safely returned to the owner.
What should I do when I find a stolen bicycle?
If you scan a tag and discover it's marked as stolen, immediately contact local authorities and the bicycle owner through our secure messaging system. Do not attempt to recover the bicycle yourself.
Are there risks to being a Hunter?
Being a Hunter carries minimal risk as you're only scanning tags, not confronting thieves. Always prioritize your safety and work with authorities when dealing with stolen bicycles.
How are rewards paid?
Rewards are paid through secure payment methods once a stolen bicycle is successfully recovered and returned to the owner. Payment processing typically takes 3-5 business days.
Security and Privacy
Is my personal information safe?
Yes, we use enterprise-level security measures including encryption, secure servers, and GDPR compliance. Your personal information is protected and never sold to third parties.
Who can see my bicycle information?
Only essential information is visible during scanning: bicycle status (stolen/safe), general location, and contact options. Personal details like name and address are never displayed publicly.
Can someone track me through my NFC tag?
No, NFC tags don't allow constant tracking. Location data is only collected when someone actively scans your tag, and you control who can see this information.
What happens to my data if I delete my account?
When you delete your account, all personal data is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days, in compliance with GDPR regulations.
How do you prevent fraud in the system?
We use multiple verification methods, require photographic documentation for bicycle registration, and have algorithms to detect suspicious activity. False reports result in account suspension.
Are NFC tags encrypted?
Yes, all data stored on NFC tags is encrypted. Even if someone could read the raw data, they couldn't access meaningful information without our secure keys.
